Moms First launches “Oscar Nod for Mom” campaign as “No Country for Mothers” begins Oscar-qualifying run in New York City
Building on the record-breaking film’s grassroots screening tour, a new campaign asks Hollywood: “where’s her statue?”
September 10, 2026 NEW YORK, NY — Moms First, the national nonprofit fighting for America’s moms, today launched Oscar Nod for Mom, a national petition and social campaign timed to the Oscar-qualifying theatrical run of No Country for Mothers, the record-breaking feature documentary directed by Raeshem Nijhon and produced by Emmy-nominated Culture House Media, Tan France’s French Tuck Media, formula company Bobbie, and Moms First. The campaign is live at http://momsfirst.us/doc/#oscar-nod and asks supporters to add their name in support of greater recognition for mothers’ stories on film, building on the same grassroots movement that produced the film itself.
#OSCARNODFORMOM | RECOGNIZING MOMS ON HOLLYWOOD’S BIGGEST STAGE
No Country for Mothers was never a studio production. It was made by more than 2,500 mothers and allies who signed on as producers, breaking the world record for the most producers ever credited on a single film. Since its June premiere in New York, the film has rolled out through the American Motherhood Tour, anchored by marquee screenings in New York, Minneapolis, Chicago, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and Seattle, and is on track for more than 1,000 community-led screenings hosted by moms and allies in all 50 states. Oscar Nod for Mom takes that same grassroots energy into awards season.
“Behind every Oscar is a mom. Every actor, every crew member, every performance. It’s no wonder moms are the most thanked people at the Oscars. But where are moms’ stories on Hollywood’s biggest stage? And where’s her statue?” said Reshma Saujani, founder and CEO of Moms First. “No Country for Mothers finally told the truth about what it’s like to be a mom in America. No studio backed it. Moms did, one screening at a time, until more than 2,500 of us signed on as producers and broke a world record doing it. Now we’re asking Hollywood for one thing: an Oscar nod for Mom.”
“When we made this film, I wasn’t thinking about awards season, I was thinking about the mamas pacing the floor at 2 a.m., wondering if anyone was paying attention to what her life actually looks like,” said Director Raeshem Nijhon. “More than 2,500 of you decided to pay attention, and that’s the best, most inspiring part of this story. A nod from the Academy would just mean Hollywood is catching up to what us mamas know: our story was always worth telling on the biggest stage there is.”
THE ASK | SIGN, SHARE, SEE THE FILM
Supporters can add their name at http://momsfirst.us/doc/#oscar-nod, telling the Academy that mothers’ stories deserve recognition on the biggest stage in the industry, not just in the thank-you speech. Everyone who signs is invited to keep the momentum going by watching or hosting a screening of No Country for Mothers, which continues to screen in communities nationwide, in person and virtually, through the Moms First Host Hub at NoCountryForMothers.com.
The campaign coincides with the film’s Oscar qualifying run at Cinema Village in New York City from September 18 to September 24. The theater will offer four screenings per day with tickets available for purchase to the public at https://www.cinemavillage.com/Now-Playing/no-country-for-mothers.html. Meanwhile, Moms First is also collaborating with organizations like Mocha Moms, Inc, Dads for All, Spread the Jelly, Peanut, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America to offer special programming for select screenings.
